Cunningham (Radford University, Radford, VA) has studied Japanese martial arts for many years, including time spent in Japan. His interest includes the history and culture of the samurai. While his emphasis is on the many weapons used by samurai, he also explains the history behind their use. The weapons include different swords, chains, truncheons and even lethal fans. Each is described with diagrams and pictures.
