What do you mean they don't give trophies for playing video games?

It’s only fair, isn’t it? Clueless McGee has mastered his Ninja Warz video game and he’d like a trophy. It seems like a lot of extra work to have to win the science fair to get one. . . . Yet that trophy is REALLY nice. And Clueless does have an idea for a magnetic pickle that seems like an obvious winner. So okay, he’s in. Until someone steals the trophy—and then he’s on the case! Clueless will have to call on his finest ninja skills —not to mention some luck and a lot of help from people more competent than he is—in order to solve the mystery. . . .

Jeff Mack continues to hit every note just right in this hilarious series that young middle-graders will be reading, rereading, and exchanging with their friends until (and even after) the next installment lands on the shelves. With comic-style art throughout, this book is perfect for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, Dork Diaries and for any kid who likes mysteries, likes to laugh, and is a video game master!

Review:

"Star of a long-running comic strip, sixth-grader Nate Wright makes the leap to a cartoon-laden chapter book in the smart alecky vein of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Nate (who's 'not exactly Joe Honor Roll') dissects the horrors of middle school, from vindictive teachers to the popular girls' lunch table, aka Fort Knox ('You can try to get in, but you have no chance'). The wisp of a plot revolves around a fortune cookie that predicts, 'Today you will surpass all others,' launching Nate into actions that indeed cause him to surpass all others with seven detentions. (His ill-conceived plans include speed-eating 148 servings of cafeteria green beans.) The book's appeal lies in Nate's wickedly astute observations and the savvy integration of cartoons with text. Angry teachers' speech bubbles drip with icicles, and sidebars house humorous asides: 'When a teacher completely snaps and starts screaming, it's called a Full Godfrey. (When Mrs. Godfrey does it, it's called Monday).' Though Nate may not achieve the fame he seeks with his classmates, this sharp-witted and unflappable protagonist just might find it with readers. Ages 8 — 12." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Synopsis:

Inspired by Peirce's "Big Nate" comic strip, this first book in a six-part series introduces Nate Wright: sixth grader, class clown, self-described genius, and the all-time record holder for school detentions. Illustrations.

Synopsis:

A time machine? Mal can build one with his eyes closed and one arm tied behind his back. His secret crush's birthday party? Gulp.

A shrinking machine. Invisibility spray. If Mal can think it, he can build it. But there's one thing he can't seem to do: Get Megan to notice him. He gets his chance when he's invited to her birthday party. But destroying her cake and presents wasn't quite what Mal had in mind.

Good thing the school's talent show is coming up! Megan will really be impressed when she sees Mal levitate for real and . . . uh-oh--cause a major blizzard?? Yikes! Who will go rescue Mal's talking dog best friend, Chad?

Kids graduating from picture books or anxiously awaiting the next Ook and Gluk book will devour Stephen McCranie's laugh-out-loud series.

Synopsis:

Big Nate meets Encyclopedia Brown

Clueless McGee is just your average fifth-grader: snarky, awkward, and a magnet for trouble. The only difference: he's also an amateur detective. Determined to make his absent father proud, he uses the skills he's learned playing video games to solve mysteries. Only he's no Sherlock Holmes. Or Encyclopedia Brown. Or even Scooby-Doo. When the school bully is framed for filling the orchestra teacher's tuba with macaroni and cheese, Clueless is on the case. But can he catch the culprit before he strikes again? His only obstacle, as Jeff Mack shows us in his hilarious new illustrated series, is his own ineptitude . . . questionable talent . . . and limited intelligence. No problem!
