i think it's kinda funny how people in Ap history are calling this book boring, i have to read it in 8th grade. you dont know the meaning of bored until you have read this book. if you havent read it and need to you might as well read every other page, it moves that slow.

ok this book doesnt even deserve ONE star! im serious! the only reason i read this is because i had to pass AP US History! UGH! for real i had to lock my self in a room with no destractions for like 3 days just to get the first part read!! its insanely boring and doesnt capture the intrest of readers. now i have to do part 2! im just praying to God i can stay awake long enough to read it! but for real this book was an utter waste of the time of many students. i am proud to announce that now that my sister and i have both finished this book we will be ripping off the cover and shreading it to pieces and then ripping it in half so my sister and i can both have our justice as we burn it page by page in the street! :) to be honest thats about the most exciting thing about that book...that you can burn it when our done!

I had to read this book for my schools summer reading also, and compared to most history novels i actually thought it was good.
It's incredibly hard to make any history book enjoyable, but i thought Jeff Shaara did a good job on explaining everything in a way that wasn't too detailed, but detailed enough so you knew was happening.
I wouldn't really recommened anyone to read it, unless you have some time on your hands that your not planning on doing anything else with, because honestly i would have never read it if i wasn't forced too, but it turned out i am pretty happy i did.
i have a better understanding now of what really happend and the people that were involved in the Revolution.

"Review" by , "Once more breathing vigor and passion into the dusty annals of our nation's history, [Shaara] demonstrates an ever-growing level of literary competence....[A] masterful dramatization..."
"Review" by , "As in all good historical fiction, Shaara's novel gives historical figures flesh-and-blood viability. At nearly 500 pages, this novel requires a major investment in reading time, yet it is an investment painlessly made for it pays profitable dividends."
"Review" by , "Rise to Rebellion is by no means disgraceful; it's simply dull....One hopes Shaara will take more time with its successor, and produce a novel that compares more favorably with the best of its predecessors."
"Review" by , "Rise to Rebellion, not surprisingly, reads much like the print original of a television movie, but here's the thing: with few exceptions, books are better than their cinematic adaptations — fuller, more subtly shaded, more pleasingly detailed — and Shaara's first novel set in colonial times will inevitably outshine the film someday based on it. The book is true to history — no accepted facts are knowingly contradicted, no lines of dialogue have been altered to suit Shaara's needs — but the story is wholly the author's own...."
