Synopses & ReviewsPublisher Comments:With more than two million copies sold, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? has opened up a world of learning to a generation of children. For this edition, created for the twenty-fifth anniversary in 1992, Bill Martin, Jr., restored his text to its original wording. And Eric Carle created all new pictures — based on the originals, but clearer, brighter, and truer to the colors they represent.
Bill Martin has been devoted to writing children's books for more than thirty years. He has a Ph.D. in early childhood education and he has long been a proponent of using rhyme and rhythm to teach young children how to read. Eric Carle, illustrator of many beloved children's books, was born in the United States, but spent his early years in Stuttgart, Germany, where he studied art and design at the Academy of Applied Art. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? was the first book he illustrated. Review:"Carle's characteristically inventive, jewel-toned artwork forms a seamless succession of images that fairly leap of the pages, and educator Martin, ever tuned in to what children like best, has assembled a thoroughly rowdy menagerie...imitations of whose sounds will doubtless soon be echoing in many homes and classrooms. A visually and aurally splashy work, this is a splendid successor to Brown Bear, one that no fan of that popular bruin will want to be without." Publishers Weekly
Review:“The contemporary classic...perfect for sharing with a group of preschoolers.” The Horn Book Guide
Review:"A picture book full of rhyme and repetition that will appeal to preschoolers. Carle's large collages bursting with color are perfect for the text." Booklist
Synopsis:A big happy frog, a plump purple cat, a handsome blue horse, and a soft yellow duck all parade across the pages of this delightful book. Combined with Martin's sing-song text, Carle's boldly colored collages create unforgettable images of these endearing animals. Full color.
