Publisher Comments:

All across the world a uniform, homogeneous model of development, inspired by Los Angeles style urban sprawl—consisting of massive freeways, parking lots, shopping malls, and large-scale masterplanned communities with golf courses—is being stamped onto the earth's topography. This globalized model of architecture does not respect or adapt itself to the natural or cultural environment onto which it is implanted.

German American photographer Robert Harding Pittman began working on this project in Los Angeles ten years ago. Since then he has been photographing the spread of "L.A. style development" in Las Vegas, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Dubai, and South Korea.

Synopsis:

Disturbing photo series showing a globalized model of architecture being stamped onto the earths topography

About the Author

Robert Harding Pittman is a photographer and filmmaker, living between USA, Germany and Spain. His main interest is how different cultures interact with the environment and how they manage “development”. Bill McKibben is author of a dozen books about the environment, beginning with The End of Nature in 1989, the first book for a general audience on climate change. He is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org. The Boston Globe called him "the country's most important environmentalist."

Alison Nordström is Curator of Photographs at George Eastman House, the oldest and largest museum of photography in the United States.
