Publisher Comments:

Cody and Meg were inseparable.

Two peas in a pod.

Until . . . they werent anymore.

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Megs college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that theres a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, and some secrets of his own. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody cant open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friends death gets thrown into question.

I Was Here is Gayle Forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss.

Synopsis:

When a so-called "suicide pact" between their teenage children goes awry--leaving only one child dead--the parents, who have been friends for 18 years, find themselves caught up in an anguished courtroom drama.

Synopsis:

The first book by "New York Times" bestselling author Picoult available in mass market paperback is a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence.

Synopsis:

From Jodi Picoult, one of the most powerful writers in contemporary fiction, comes a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish — and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence. Until the phone calls came at 3:00 a.m. on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily has been shot to death by her beloved and devoted Chris as part of an apparent suicide pact — leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.

Jodi Picoult's "The Pact" is billed as a love story but it is far more than that. It is a story of complex human relationships culminating in a John Grisham like Courtroom Drama. The story involves the death of Emily Gold. Is it a suicide or did Chris Harte kill her? That in essence is the plot but in answering this question Picoult has explored so many areas of relationships that the book tugged at my heartstrings. As for the trial each time a witness was examined and cross-examined I swayed between thinking Chris would be acquitted or convicted. No, I will not be a spoiler. This book is a must read.

This story was a familiar life event where boy meets girl and they are neighbors. However, the twist of the story is that the love is so strong between them that they agree to a pact of remaining with each other no matter what and something goes wrong. This book was hard to put down because the reader doesn't really know why the tragedy happens unless you read between the lines. Young love, almost like Romeo and Juliet.

This book had me in tears through out. It was touching, and heart wrenching, and makes you question the extent you would go to for a loved one. It hits a lot of hot button topics, and is very truthful and so well written. I have read and reread this book many times. Grab a box of tissues and enjoy!
