About the Author

Abraham Verghese is a professor of medicine at Texas Tech University and the author of My Own Country. He lectures on medical humanities at many medical schools and is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker. He lives with his wife, Sylvia, and three children in El Paso, Texas.

This is a wonderful story of a friendship which transcends Power Differential. Abraham, the professor and senior doctor, may be the powerful one in the hospital, but on the tennis court, it is David who wields the power.

A gripping story of the upheavals in the lives of the two men and the friendship which seems to stand the test of time.

However, when the deep dark secrets of David's life come and intrude does the friendship have the strength to survive or will the tennis partners drift apart? The author's metaphors, using tennis to explain the vagaries of life, are just wonderful.
