Aardema has written a wonderful African folktale, pourquoi myth, fantasy picture book. She took an insect to create conflict amoung the jungle and then brought the animals together to investigate the problem, resolving the story with who was to blame. The mosquito forever more whines in people's ears asking them if they are still angry with him. Each page is done in vivid watercolors as though the animals are jumping out at you. The African art designs fill the whole page, with animal characters that are humanlike, who can talk and think. Every country has mosquitoes and children everywhere of all ages will receive esthetic pleasure and humor turning the pages and reading this book. Not only do the words tell a story the illuminating illustrations of the animated animals tell a story as well. I highly recommend this book for home or classroom enjoyment.
