Diesel Performance Handbook for Pickups and Suvs (Motorbooks Workshop)
Synopses & Reviews
As fuel prices constantly rise and diesel fuel becomes an ever more attractive alternative, light truck and SUV manufacturers are responding by building some of the most efficient and powerful diesel engines ever offered. While a stock diesel engine can be more efficient and powerful than a standard gasoline engine, it can be tuned and modified for even better performance.
Standard diesels, bio-diesels, and ethanol blends have drastically changed the landscape of the truck and SUV market. And aftermarket products can provide nearly any combination of performance, speed, and efficiency. With so much technology and so many choices, tuning your engine can be a challenge.
Diesel expert Ben Watson has been an instructor, a mechanic, a technician, and an author for over 30 years. He shares his wealth of experience in Diesel Performance Handbook for Pickups and SUVs. Watson discusses everything from interpreting your vehicle’s computer codes and adjusting the fuel mapping to simple bolt-on products that will increase the performance of your engine.
Diesel Performance Handbook for Pickups and SUVs is your first step to getting the most out of your pickup or SUV.

How to get the most out of the diesel engine—adapting intake and exhaust, torque converters, engine electronics, turbochargers, and much more.
With gas prices rising (always), alternative fuels look like an answer. Hybrids sound good, but what about the batteries? And fuel cells still seem to be pie-in-the-sky. Which leaves us with good old diesel. This book shows how to get the most out of the diesel engine, at a time when its fuel efficiency is almost as important as its massive torque. Although most diesel truck owners probably aren’t planning to break any land speed records, advances in diesel technology, such as ultra-low-sulfur fuel, high-pressure common-rail fuel injection, electronic fuel management and variable geometry turbocharging, are bringing diesel engines into the performance arena. And this book is the ideal guide for making your diesel engine perform--adapting intake and exhaust, torque converters, engine electronics, turbochargers, and much more.
