Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

When ten women set foot in the Campania region of Southern Italy, they become instantly mesmerized by the region. Is it the tranquil aqua blue waters of the Mediterranean . . . the spectacular vistas that offer views of a horizon that stretches on forever...or the charming Italian men they meet along the way? Whatever it is, the women quickly realize they have fallen under the undeniable charm of Italy.

Gelato Sisterhood on the Amalfi Shore is part personal diary, part historical review, part travelogue. The author/tour director escorts the reader and her small group of women into the 2000-year-old streets of Pompeii, the lemon groves and olive orchards outside sun-washed ancient Roman towns and out to the isle of Capri, the romantic playground of the rich and famous. It is a 7-day excursion that takes the reader over narrow roads that bisect the lava enriched farmland as historical treasure after treasure await around every hairpin turn. The women indulge in the incomparable regional food and wine, succumb to the siren song of stunning handmade ceramics and learn the fascinating stories of this historically rich corner of earth. When you turn the last page, you will understand why the Amalfi Coast is one of the most talked about locations in the world, and why literary luminaries such as D.H. Lawrence, Oscar Wilde and Harriet Beecher Stowe spent long sojourns there.

The challenge is to read this book and NOT be planning your trip to the Amalfi Coast (or your return if you have been so lucky to have visited before). This is armchair traveling at its best. The reader joins Chantal as she guides a group of American women on a week trip to the Amalfi Coast.
When does the next flight leave?
I really appreciated the bibliography, filmography and glossary of Italian terms. But I would have liked an index also as I wanted to go back and re-read a number of items and link some of the history and it was not always easy to remember where certain things were mentioned.
