Synopses & Reviews
Although landscape is one of its subjects, this poetry is metaphysical rather than pastoral. Sight—as a faculty, as the source of a picture, and as perception of connections beyond the picture—is the fascination in these poems, and though it is made clear that sight is translated by humans into speech (including of course, poetry), these lines try to evoke images at the moment of apprehension, before speech comes into play.
Full of astute observations and subtle reflections, this collection explores the nature of seeing. Rather than hollowly exploiting what is seen, the author struggles to achieve wholeness by making vital connections between sight, speech, and their origins.
