Synopses & Reviews

Book News Annotation:

This book/CD-ROM text is for students of manual and movement therapies, including massage, chiropractic, athletic training, and Feldenkrais. Many of the text's color illustrations combine artwork, photos, and computer illustration. The book begins with material on basic terminology, the skeletal system, and how muscles function. Chapters are then grouped into sections on body regions. Two-page spreads on specific muscles overview actions and functions and give notes on innervation and arterial supply, palpation, and muscle relationships. The book concludes with a chapter on the functional mover groups (new to this edition). For this edition, the text has been reordered to correspond with how courses are taught in bodywork schools. Functional information for each muscle has been expanded to include the shortening, reverse, and isometric stabilization actions. The CD-ROM allows students to build layered illustrations of the muscular system, and also includes audio files of review material. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
