Bitten: Women of the Otherworld, Book 1

Bitten: Women of the Otherworld, Book 1 Cover

Author's Note

The idea for the series began, as many books do, with the simple question, "What if...?" What if werewolves existed? How could they survive, undetected, in contemporary North America? What would they be like? My exploration of these questions led to Bitten, two pivotal weeks in the life of Elena Michaels, the world's only female werewolf.

Then what? Well, the world of Bitten begs another question: If we have werewolves, what else do we have? Stolen starts to answer that question. In Stolen, Elena unwittingly discovers a whole supernatural sub-culture, one the werewolves chose to break away from centuries ago.

After Stolen, I bid Elena good-bye (for now). Enter Paige Winterbourne, apprentice witch, introduced in Stolen. Having grown up in this supernatural world, Paige should be an excellent guide for the next step of the journey, Dime Store Magic. But, at twenty-three, Paige doesn't know as much about this world as she thinks she does...or so she'll discover in Book 4.

"Review" by , "It's not easy to find a fresh angle for the werewolf theme, but this debut novel...proves that solid storytelling and confident craftsmanship can rejuvenate one of the hoariest of all horror cliches....Filled with romance and supernatural intrigue, this book will surely remind readers of Anne Rice's sophisticated refurbishings of the vampire story."
"Review" by , "Armstrong's lycanthropology, though vivid, lacks the depth of Whitley Streiber's epic The Last Vampire, but it's as smooth as cream all the way, sure to gain fans."
"Review" by , "Armstrong puts a new spin on the old werewolf tales and has created a well-written, thought-provoking novel to boot....More than just fast-paced action, this book offers an allegory of the difficulties with which one struggles when life takes an entirely unplanned and unwanted route....[Elena] is a feisty, tough character, easy to like, and with a good lesson to share."
"Review" by , "While the plot is as predictable as gang warfare, readers will cheer for Elena as she beats up the big boys and has the courage to choose her own path."
"Review" by , "A hair-raising story for the she-wolf in us all."
"Review" by , "It's terrific. I'm a sucker for this kind of novel — the heroine is the most appealing I have come across in ages. It's clever, quirky, hip, and funny, skating between genres with style and grace. More, please!"
"Synopsis" by , Now a TV series on the Syfy channel airing Mondays at 10 pm / 9 pm CT.

"Frisky...Tells a rather sweet love story, and suggests that being a wolf may be more comfortable for a strong, smart woman than being human." -The New York Times Book Review

Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf.

Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must recon with who, and what, she is in this passionate, page-turning novel that begins the Women of the Otherworld series.

"Synopsis" by ,

Elena Michaels is a werewolf.  On certain nights, she takes off into the streets of the city naked and furred, savagely striking at the throats of her animal prey.  Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever continues to haunt her. When the elite pack of werewolves that initiated her into her new life is threatened, Michaels is thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to this secret clan, and forces her to reckon with who, and what, she is. In the spirit of Anne Rices Interview With a Vampire, Bitten is a powerful stay-up-all-night fiction debut and has been adapted into a TV series, to be aired on the Syfy channel in 2014.
