One of the earliest Encyclopedia Brown books (#5 in the series), this collection of mysteries builds on the established cast of characters and introduces a few new characters. As a father and son reading together and flexing our cerebral muscles as a team, my 10-year old and I especially enjoyed some new twists in the story set-ups, including being hired by a rival and a chance for Encyclopedia to set straight a chapter of Idaville history. The variety of problem-solving techniques employed by the young detective is a good incentive for using the power of observation to its fullest - we never fail to be challenged, and we look forward to each new mystery in every chapter as a test of our wits.
