Excerpt

1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE was 7 years in the making, but really was--and continues to be--the result of an exciting and educational lifetime of research, whether the many years merrily spent on assignment for travel guides such as Frommer's, Accessand Berlitz,or for personal reasons and the curiosity and itchy feet that shaped my life since I first set off alone, at four, from the family beach blanket in Atlantic City. The Great Beyond has called me ever since, a siren's call to explore the untold magic and fascination, and fun, that the world promises at every turn. Yes, at the Grand Canyons and Taj Mahals of the world, but here are 998 more I guarantee will get you off the couch.

Found this book very helpful in getting ideas for things to see in different countries. It inspired me to see Istanbul and Morocco! Wonderful!
To the writer that commented that he only reviewed hotels.... well... I dont think thats quite fair. Most if not all of the hotels that he did comment on are of historical or architectural significance. It was also written for those that have a lot of money... and for those of us who dont. It is easy to plan your trip around costs and seasonal preferences! LOVED the book!

I noticed that many many entries in "1000 places" are hotels. Did Patricia ever journy out side of the Buffet rooms?
I would like to see more natual stunning places than airconditioned halls. What if a traveler (broke as myself) can't afford lunch at the Ritz?
