Review:

"Endo's best novel....A fine, stirring work which has won him many literary prizes in Japan and been widely translated." Times Literary Supplement

Synopsis:

"Silence I regard as a masterpiece, a lucid and elegant drama". Irving Howe, The New York Review of Books

This is one of my favorite books I've ever read. I has stayed with me for years. It's about the struggle between dying for what you believe in or living by renouncing your God and continuing to live an inauthentic life . Which is better? What would you do if faced with this choice? Is living really worth it at all in that case? Would you suffer, if that's what God asked of you? This book really made me take a hard look at myself. It made me better understand what suffering would be like and how hard it would be to make the choice I know is right. This book is perfect for anyone interested in existentialism. It is very deep and sort of dark, but you won't regret reading this.
