Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Now in a beautiful paperback edition, this lavish volume offers a detailed look inside the great homes of one of the world's most sophisticated cities. From chic Russian Hill apartments and grand Pacific Heights mansions to artists' lofts and legendary Victorians, San Francisco: A Certain Style documents the city's famous innovation, quality, and diversity in 200 full-color photographs. The accompanying text provides historical information, along with descriptions of famous houses in the area and chronological commentary on Bay Area architecture. A marvelous glimpse into the residences of local luminaries — and the work of such renowned architects and interior designers as Julia Morgan and Willis Polk — this book will be a source of entertainment, information, and inspiration for designers, homeowners and anyone who appreciates gracious living.
