So, as a writer, I write a lot of sequels. And because I write a lot of sequels, I sometimes worry that I'm going to write a book that someone who is new to me is not going to want to read. The reason for that makes perfect sense to me as a
reader: they're worried that they're going to get into the story late. They won't understand what's going on. They're going to be confused by events, and that's going to make them angry. Then they're not going to have any fun reading my book. I think this is a serious problem, especially in science fiction and fantasy, where so many books are sequels, or in a series, or otherwise part of a larger universe...
