Read It Before They Screen It: Mao’s Last Dancer

Variety reports that Bruce Beresford has signed on to direct the adaptation of Li Cunxin's memoir, Mao's Last Dancer. The story of a Chinese ballet dancer defecting to the U.S. during the late '70s will co-star Kyle McLachlan, Bruce Greenwood, and Joan Chen.

"[A] fascinating glimpse of the history of Chinese-U.S. relations and the dissolution of the Communist ideal in the life of one fortunate individual," declares Publishers Weekly.
