Kids’ Letters to President Obama, Part 3

[Editor's Note: Powell's is pleased to welcome the pint-sized contributors of Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids' Letters to President Obama to our blog for the next month! Ranging in age from 6 to 14, the kids are all students of 826 Nationala non-profit literacy organization, founded in part by Dave Eggers, with seven chapters countrywide. The book is a compilation of letters written to President Obama shortly after he was elected. We'll be presenting the original letters that were published in the book, plus some updates from our mini-pundits on how our new president is measuring up so far. Original letter by Giuseppe Pacheco, age 7:

Dear Mr. Obama,

I wish you could give me money and buy me a Nintendo DS and a DS game. Mr. Obama, are you rich? Don't cut more trees down, because I have hard homework.

I know you can be a better president than President Bush.

Vote yes on Obama!

Sincerely,

Giuseppe Pacheco

Giuseppe writes for Powells.com:

Did you like my letter, President Obama? Did you like my drawing of you? Since the book came out, did you get a copy? Did you like the other kids' letters?

President Obama, are you playing video games in the White House? Do you play tennis? Are you in Hawaii?

I was in the San Francisco Chronicle, on the first page. Ms. Gray, my teacher, showed me a copy of the newspaper. She gave it to me. I showed it to everybody. They said, "Cool, you're famous, dude!" I said, "Yeah, I'm famous."

My mom was very happy. She said, "Yes, you're in the Chronicle, baby!" People have told me that my letter is funny.

I read my letter to everybody at 826 Valencia. I read it into a microphone. People said I rocked.

The best part about all of this when people laugh when they read my letter.

    Dear Mr.Obama
Why is it that every time they make an electronic thing so you can put on your keychain they never put the name "Erick".Can you fix that please?Because that is not fair that other people can get one and people with my name can't get one.
    Thanks, regards

    Erick
