Creator Margurite Bennett has this to say in her introduction: “I wrote InSEXts because I am a woman, and to be a woman is to live a life of body horror.” When it comes to body horror, she delivers with a Victorian-era revenge story where the heroes are shape-shifting lesbian insect-women. It leans into the horror, subverting tropes about violence toward women into liberation, while also having fun with werewolves and a playful penny dreadful aesthetic. The first volume is titled Chrysalis, and if this was the caterpillar building it's cocoon, I can't wait to see the butterfly. Recommended By Cosima C., Powells.com
