Poetry. Hold the pickle, hold the lettuce...Mark Lamoureux's 29 CHEESEBURGERS is back in print plus a side order of 39 YEARS, Lamoureux's birthday poems to himself.
"These poems [29 CHEESEBURGERS] are Neo-Shakespearean and sonnet-thought but still hold to the American road. Innocent, dreamy and strong all at once."—Fanny Howe
"Through '[a] curtain of blood, / a bubble of burst skin,' Mark Lamoureux emerges into the mysterious spaces of childhood, 'when the names were huge and few.' As he is born and reborn into life and language like a 'Dark Phoenix // with a flaming skull for a brain,' Lamoureux strives to transcend the grim realities of George H. W. Bush's 'thousand points of light' and takes us on wild flights of the imagination out beyond the farthest confines of Alpha Centauri. In the process, these autobiographical snapshots accrue such specificity as to become universal, become so lyrical as to proclaim themselves every poet's battle cry from cradle to adolescence to, oh boy, middle age. Here's to '[o]ld friends, old love, and nuclear destruction.' Here's to Mark Lamourexu's next 39 years."—Chris McCreary
