Review
This book responds brilliantly to one of the most urgent educational challenges of the 21st. century. As a result of unprecedented population mobility, cultural and linguistic diversity is the norm in an increasing number of school systems across North America. Teachers are consequently faced with the need to present a standard curriculum to a highly diverse student body. For teachers and administrators attempting to help ESL students catch up academically and attain grade-level standards, Elizabeth Coelho has provided a comprehensive, yet extremely lucid, guide to effective practice. The chapters if this book are, without exception, insightful, thought-provoking, practical, but above all respectful of the intelligence and commitment of both educators and students.Jim Cummins, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education
