About the Author
Kathleen Cordes served as the Executive Director for the American Association for Leisure and Recreation and received their Outstanding Achievement Award in 2001 and their Merit Service Award in 1997. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Service to Recreation Award from the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Cordes is Professor Emeritus from Miramar College in San Diego, California. She was previously on the faculty at Whittier College in California and at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where she was also the first female to coach a varsity sport, tennis. At Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Cordes served as Director of Athletics and Recreation. She is the author of America's National Scenic Trails (2001) and America's National Historic Trails (1999) with the University of Oklahoma Press. She also teams with Ibrahim on Outdoor Recreation (1993), which they are currently updating. The Chinese edition of Applications in Recreation and Leisure for Today and the Future was released in 2000.
