About the Author
Julie Zickefoose, a magazine and book illustrator, began her career as a field biologist for the Nature Conservancy. Her monthly commentaries bring a glimpse of Appalachia to NPR's All Things Considered. Bird Watcher's Digest has published more than forty of her articles and seventeen cover paintings since 1986. She lives in Whipple, Ohio.
