BOOM!
It's July 1863. And when Billy hears guns and cannons, he knows a battle is about to begin -- right in Gettysburg. With Papa away, Billy and Mama must face the Rebel soldiers alone.
One night Billy hears a knock at the door. It's a Rebel soldier who has run away. And he's just a boy! Mama and Billy hide him, until Mama has to leave to help wounded Union soldiers.
Will Billy be able to keep the boy's identity a secret while Mama is gone and protect himself against the Rebels?
This story is based on the life of Billy Bayly, a real boy who lived in Pennsylvania during the Civil War -- and his unlikely friendship with a southern soldier.
