Far and away my favorite of his books, Black Sun was also purportedly Abbey's favorite of his own work. The story has none of the political heavy-handedness of some of his other work. Rather, it's simply an extended ode to Abbey's mythical Southwest, his narrative voice as it was meant to be heard. If you read one book by Edward Abbey, read this one.
