Review
"With grace and care, Aimee Davis's andlt;iandgt;Breaking Barriersandlt;/iandgt; showcases the lives and works of nine prominent Chinese Indonesian women. Woven into these accounts is the history of the Indonesian nation itself, and of women and ethnic Chinese Indonesians as part of that history. The lives of these women are a testament to Indonesian history in a contemporary society that is more open than ever before to confronting its own complex and often painful past." and#8212;andlt;bandgt;Thomas B. Review
"Professor Aimee Dawis writes a compelling sociopolitical history of Indonesian-born Chinese women through a series of sketches of women who have reached the pinnacle in various walks of life: the arts, sports, business, philanthropy, and education. These stories are compelling. And Dawis also pays tribute to the women who came before such opportunities existed, nonetheless remaining optimistic, living to see repression give way to renaissance." and#8212;andlt;bandgt;Dean Scheibel, Ph.D., Professor of Communication Studies,Loyola Marymount Universityandlt;/bandgt;
