Barbara Walker, knitter extradordinaire, published the 5 classic stitchionaries (if you include the 4th one Schoolhouse Press published and her Mosaic Knitting book). This third one, titled Charted Knitting Designs, is the most useful of all. The charts show you clearly what the stitch pattern will look like without getting bogged down in the line-by-line directions usually given. Walker "unvented" some of these stitches and explains how so you too can "unvent" your own cables, openwork or simple k-p texture stitches. This is a classic that should be in all knitters' libraries!
