Synopsis
Beginning with a bibliographic essay, the work retraces the literature of public library development in East and West Africa. Included are the historical contributions and writings of Harold Lancour, F.A. Sharr, and John Harris, three men that helped to positively shape the library world in Africa. Literature on library associations that have significantly influenced professional development in Africa is included as well as articles discussing the organization of knowledge and automation.
