Synopsis
This book will be the programming companion to the database portion of the authors' forthcoming book, Object Web Survival Guide. More programming companions focusing on different topics will be coming in late 1998. This book ties together several key subject areas for Wiley: Object technology, Databases, and the Web Development. The book is organized and written like their other successful programming book, Client/Server Programming with Java and COBRA and it will be complimentary to the second edition of that book as well. The authors will cover the following topics and discuss not only what they are, how to program, but also how different and competing technologies can work together:
-- Java Database Access -- JDBS, JSQL, ODMG Mapping
-- Object Transaction Processing -- Microsoft's Viper, IBM's BOSS, BEA's Tuxedo/Iceberg
-- Java ORBS like JavaSoft's RMI, Visigenic's Java 3.0, JavaSoft's JOE, and DCOM for Java
-- Web Database Acess -- Dynamic HTML, DataApplets, Data Beans, Visual Javascript, and much more
-- Java Agents for Database Acess -- Mobile Agents and Data Agents
-- New benchmarks and tests featuring tools from Sun, Symantec, IBM, Netscape, Oracle and Microsoft, General Magic and Visigenic
