Everybody can be a thinking person when it comes to climate change, and this book is a perfect roadmap.and#160; Start a web search for andldquo;climate changeandrdquo; and the first three suggestions are andldquo;facts,andrdquo; andldquo;news,andrdquo; and andldquo;hoax.andrdquo;
The Thinking Personand#39;s Guide to Climate Change is rooted in the first, up to date on the second, and anything but the last. Produced by one of the most venerable atmospheric science organizations, it is a must-read for anyone looking for the full story on climate change.
Using global research and written with nonscientists in mind, the Guide breaks down the issues into straightforward categories: andldquo;Symptomsandrdquo; covers signs such as melting ice and extreme weather, while andldquo;Scienceandrdquo; lays out what we know and how we figured it out. andldquo;Debatesandrdquo; tackles the controversy and politics, while andldquo;Solutionsandrdquo; and andldquo;Actionsandrdquo; discuss what we can do as individuals and communities to create the best possible future. Full-color illustrations offer explanations of everything from how the greenhouse effect traps heat to which activities in everyday life emit the most carbon. Special-feature boxes zoom in on locations across the globe already experiencing the effects of a shifting climate.
The Thinking Personand#39;s Guide to Climate Change combines years of data with recent research, including conclusions from the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This reference provides the most comprehensive, yet accessible, overview of where climate science stands today, acknowledging controversies but standing strong in its stance that the climate is changingandmdash; and something needs to be done.
The Thinking Personand#39;s Guide to Climate Change is a full update and revision of Robert Hensonandrsquo;s The Rough Guide to Climate Change and is now published through the American Meteorological Society, with distribution through University of Chicago Press.and#160;

Synopsis
Going beyond the headlines, this work by leading NASA climate scientist Gavin Schmidt and master photographer Joshua Wolfe illustrates as never before the ramifications of shifting climate. Photographic spreads show retreating glaciers, sinking villages in Alaska's tundra, and drying lakes. The text follows adventurous scientists through the ice caps at the poles to the coral reefs of the tropical seas. Marshaling data spanning centuries and continents, the book sparkles with cutting-edge research and visual records, including contributions from experts on atmospheric science, oceanography, paleoclimatology, technology, politics, and the polar regions. As Jeffrey D. Sachs writes in his powerful foreword, " is a tour de force of public education."
Synopsis
An unprecedented union of scientific analysis and stunning photography illustrating the effects of climate change on the global ecosystem.
Synopsis
This up-to-date and comprehensive guide is a clear yet multi-faceted telling of the most pressing issue facing the planet and its people: climate change. It interprets scientific research and acknowledges political debate; it describes the climateand#8217;s evolution and what models tell us about its future; and it presents current reality and actions we can take to ensure the best possible outcomes. From the greenhouse effect to floods and droughts, from oceans and storms to ecosystems to agriculture, this is the long view on the most important story of our time. Author Robert Henson is an experienced science writer who bases the symptoms, science, debates, and solutions of climate change in hard facts and the latest research; he is no denier, and The AMS Guide to Climate Change, while fair and measured, pulls no punches.
