COMBAT FLYING CLOTHING is simply one of the best works of its' kind. It documents the development of garb which protected crews flying missions in unpressurized aircraft, frequently in near- or sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes. It was a daunting business to properly equip military pilots and crews in the 1930s, with tight military budgets and an isolationist mood in the country. When war broke out, equipping flight crews became imperative---and Sweeting's fine work documents that process, with the help of rich photo illustrations. Well worth owning for historians, archivists, collectors, or even pilots.
