Excerpt from Compendium of Percussion Auscultation: And of the Physical Diagnosis of Diseases Affecting the Lungs and Heart
Diminished Resonance, or Dulness. - The resonance less and the pitch higher than the normal vesicular resonance. Denotes that the proportion of solids, or of liquid, over air within the chest, is greater than in health. Incident to partial solidification of lung in pneumonia, tuberculosis, &c., to pulmonary congestion, to moderate or small pleuritic effusion, to moderate (edema of lung, and to collapsed lobules.
