Synopses & Reviews
This book thoroughly integrates the use of the MATLAB computing environment into the standard sequence of courses taken by electrical engineering majors. Use of this text makes it possible to focus on the problems being solved rather than on the programming necessary to obtain a solution. The authors utilize a computer-biased approach in which computer solutions and theory are viewed as mutually reinforcing rather than as an either/or proposition. Additionally, they adhere to the axiom that one learns by doing rather than by listening - this text features more than 100 examples, 200 exercises, and 250 MATLAB scripts that directly support the authors' flexible treatment of discrete and continuous time.
Synopsis
In response to the widespread use of MATLAB in industry and education, electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering professionals and academics are seeking materials that integrate MATLAB's computational, programming and graphing capabilities into their areas of specialization. MATLAB enhances problem solving abilities and expands understanding of important concepts.
Brooks/Cole/Thomson Learning, a leader in MATLAB-based education, offers a rich variety of guides that specifically -- and economically -- meet this need eight texts, available now and coming in early 2000, have been developed as part of Brooks/Cole's groundbreaking Bookware Companion Series "TM", the first to systematically implement the use of MATLAB in areas throughout electrical engineering and parts of mechanical engineering as well.

About the Author
Professor Robert D. Strum was Professor Emeritus in electrical and computer engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School. A veteran of World War II, Professor Strum later taught at Rose Polytechnic University for ten years. In 1956, he began a master's program at Stanford University and taught at U.S. Postgraduate School in Monterey, California for 33 years. He was also a Senior Fulbright Fellow. He conducted early research into computer assisted instruction, which led to many years of studies and publications. Professor Strum passed away in November 2008. Dr. Donald E. Kirk is Dean Emeritus of the College of Engineering of San Jose State University.
