Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

When they say that this book is a modern day "Alice in Wonderland" they don't lie. This book may seem deceivingly easy to read, but the simplicity belies a world so full of depth and color that even a well seasoned adult wanted to re-read it. You find yourself loving and admiring Coraline as she shows an adventurous spirit and purity of heart that many of us strive to obtain. Neil Gaiman is without a doubt one of the best writers in his (hard to identify) genre, and his foray into children's fiction is nothing less splendid than his adult works. Buy this book for a child, or just for your inner child, trust me you won't be disappointed.
