Synopses & Reviews
Laparoscopy is the technique of minimally invasive surgery through small abdominal openings. Its utility has led to new innovations and concepts across all fields of surgery. The discipline of urology in particular, has seen a fast-growing interest in the application of laparoscopy. In light of this, laparoscopy is for many urologists rather novel in nature, and so many are both faced with, and unprepared for, the difficult decisions and situations that laparoscopic techniques inevitably bring. Difficult Conditions in Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery outlines the potential situations faced by those using laparoscopy, as well as the way in which one can prepare for these situations. By focusing on such issues, it enables the practising surgeon to confront and resolve these possible dilemmas before even having entered the operating theatre. Every urologic procedure is described using a step-by-step sequence of events and the text is supplemented with innumerous tips, colored illustrations and high definition photographs depicting the main steps of the procedures. This book is aimed at residents, fellows and general urologists who are interested in laparoscopy and want to strengthen their knowledge and experience.
Review
From the reviews: "This book illustrates various common laparoscopic procedures and the potential difficulties laparoscopic surgeons could encounter. ... The intended audience includes residents, fellows, and beginning laparoscopic urologists. ... this book would be appropriate for urologists with either minimal or significant laparoscopic experience. ... It addresses those at the beginner's level as well as those with significant experience, and it differs from other books of its kind in the way it directly addresses challenging situations and offers practical solutions." (Scott Gabriel Hubosky, Doody's Review Service, April, 2012)
Synopsis
A book outlining the potential situations faced by those using laparoscopy, as well as the way in which one can prepare for these situations, will be a welcome addition to urological and laparoscopic literature. A book focusing on such issues will enable the practising surgeon to confront and resolve these possible dilemmas before even having entered the operating theatre.
Where many books concentrate on complications faced in the operating room, this book will take a different stance by addressing the difficulties faced, perhaps before such complications can occur. The book will primarily adopt a problem oriented approach with full clinical details and images. Description of specific procedures will be given with drawings and pictures to illustrate. Finally there will be a brief literature review on the subject to update the reader.
