"Something's wrong," she said. She inched in further, staring intently into each eye, searching for truth. "I woke up with a feeling that if I didn't see you today, I'd never see you again." He lowered his voice to just above a whisper. "Brent, Darren, Dave, and I are leaving tomorrow." Her eyes grew wide, and her mouth opened to speak. He answered her unspoken question. "I don't know where, we're just gonna go.” Thus begins the odyssey of Sven Anarki and Dave Skank, two runaway punk rockers from Orono, Maine, in 1984. They drop out of high school and head out on their cross-country trip armed with $252 dollars, 40 safety pins, a can of Aqua Net and two razorblades. Along the way they discover the raw underbelly of America: drag queens, race relations, witchcraft, homosexuality, heroin, the country's individual hardcore punk scenes, homelessness, gay hustlers, and ultimately themselves.
