Francis Marion was called the Swamp Fox. That name was given to him by a British officer named Banastre Tarleton after a particularly long, but futile chase through the Pee Dee swamps of the state's lowcountry. Marion was a very charismatic, but compassionate leader, and his men were very loyal to him. He was twice elected to the SC Legislature and was a quiet leader before, during and after the Revolution. This book, with its colorful illustrations, chronicles Marion's adult life as a citizen soldier and Continental Officer, and underscores his importance to the American cause in beating the British and Tory forces in the South.
