Synopsis
This collection of papers five papers in English text and seven papers in Gaelic text deals with social issues from culture to education and the impact of new technologies on Gaelic speaking Scotland. These were first delivered at the fourth Rannsachadh na Gidhlig conference held at Sabhal Mr Ostaig on Skye (Scotland) in July 2006.
Synopsis
This collection of essays - with seven papers in English text and four papers in Gaelic text - is drawn from lectures and discussions held at Rannsachadh na Gaidhlig 4 at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Isle of Skye, in 2006. Gaelic language is discussed in relation to: the media, orthography and grammar, definitions of the Gaelic community, a new research agenda for Gaelic, Gaelic and the economy, Gaelic in primary schools, and Gaelic-learner teachers and their training needs. The book also includes a comparative essay on community and national aims for the Irish language.
