"Big Daddy" Don Garlits has one of the longest and most successful careers in drag racing - from 1957 to 1986, he set 11 elapsed-time records, and he also won 16 drag racing points championships from 1970-1992. He's also recognized as one of drag racing's most innovative car builders, and pioneered the modern rear-engine top fuel car. His name is a household word to racing enthusiasts worldwide.
In 1977, Garlits opened the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Florida. Today, the collection contains nearly 200 cars, including some of the most famous and significant drag racing cars from the early '50s to the present. These are the cars that defined drag racing history - as picked by one of the leaders in the sport. This book covers that collection, with special, detailed attention paid to the the record setters and the cars that broke new ground in drag racing technology. The book includes both vintage photos from Don Garlits' archives, and contemporary photos of the restored cars by master photographer and author Mike Mueller.
