About the Author
Stanley Chernicoff received his B.A. degree in Political Science from the City University of New York. After taking a geology class in his final year of school, he was inspired to pursue further study in this field. He subsequently entered the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, geology program where he received his doctorate in Glacial and Quaternary Geology under the guidance of one of America's preeminent glacial geologists, Dr. H.E.Wright.Since 1981, Chernicoff has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle where he has won several teaching awards. At the university, he has taught classes in Physical Geology, the Great Ice Ages, and the Geology of the Pacific Northwest to more than 20,000 students and has trained hundreds of graduate teaching assistants in the art of bringing geology alive for non-majors.Donna Whitney graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in Geology. In 1991, she completed a doctorate in Geological Sciences from the University of Washington. Currently, she teaches at the University of Minnesota where she specializes in the study of metamorphic geology and tectonics. She has written articles for numerous scholarly journals in the field and has won awards for teaching.
