From the Introduction
If you are new to growing plants under glass, you are about to start down one of the most exciting, rewarding and therapeutic pathways gardening has to offer. Plants develop fast in the comfortable atmosphere of a greenhouse and in just one growing season you can fill your greenhouse with a jungle-like profusion of growth.
A greenhouse condenses all the dramas of the garden outside and presents them to you in close-up and at eye-level. Seedlings push their way through compost, bulbs burst into growth and buds pop open right under your nose. You dont need to crouch low to admire your plants and inhale their perfume and there are new surprises every day as the processes of growing, flowering and resting unfold.
Ripening tomatoes and lengthening cucumbers rub shoulders with the shiny purple paddles of aeoniums and crisp, pine-scented foliage of pelargoniums. Toothed, succulent Aloe vera leaves make strong lines against blue-green dianthus and sage plants destined for the garden. Constant scene changes are wrought as plants pass through the greenhouse in their different stages of growth.
I hope this book will introduce you to these pleasures, inspire you to try growing new plants and help you make the most of your greenhouse.
