Synopses & Reviews
Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.
Since then, Mac's life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac's hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy's killer:
A white werewolf.
Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.
Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy's murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy's boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.
Kathleen Peacock's thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love.
"Jacob fans rejoice: Peacock's debut is loaded with werewolves both creepy and hot. The town of Hemlock has been the scene of multiple attacks, and the victims who survive are infected with 'lupine syndrome' and interned for life. Mackenzie (Mac) Dobson's best friend Amy was not a survivor. Since Amy's murder, her boyfriend Jason has gone dangerously off the rails, and Mac and her friend Kyle are doing what they can to keep him from self-destructing completely. Violence and betrayal escalate rapidly when the Trackers, a self-appointed militia dedicated to wiping out werewolves, occupy the town. But not every werewolf is subject to bloodlust, and some are hiding in plain sight maybe even closer than Mac thinks. When Jason pledges himself to the Trackers, Mac is determined to save him and find closure for Amy by identifying the murderer. First in a projected trilogy, Peacock's story leaves many threads dangling, but there is a satisfying conclusion to this plot arc, and Mac's smart and believable voice will leave readers looking forward to more.
