Excerpts from Hillary Clinton in Her Own Words:
On Feminism
I am a woman and, like millions of women, I know there are still barriers and biases out there, often unconscious, and I want to build an America that respects and embraces the potential of every last one of us.
(Concession Speech, June 7, 2008)
On Equal Pay
Equal pay is not yet equal. A woman makes 77 cents on a dollar and women of color make 67 cents. . . . We feel so passionately about this because we not only are running for office, but we each, in our own way, have lived it. We have seen it. We have understood the pain and the injustice that has come because of race, because of gender. And its imperative that . . . we make it very clear that each of us will address these issues.
(Democratic Primary Debate, Congressional Black Caucus Institute, January 21, 2008)
On Womens Roles
I have always believed that women are not victims, we are agents of change, we are drivers of progress, we are makers of peace—all we need is a fighting chance.
(Speech, Women in the World Summit, April 5, 2013)
On Her Work Style
I think Im very hardheaded. Ive never understood the division between so-called realists and so-called idealists. I dont know how you get up in the world every day, doing what I do, if you dont have some sense of idealism, because you have to believe that as hard as it is, youre going to prevent the dictator from oppressing his people, youre going to help to stop the war, youre going to figure out a way to get clean water to thirsty people and cure kids of disease. And at the same time, I dont know how you go through the day and expect to be successful without being very hardheaded and realistic. So for me, its not an either/or.
(The Atlantic, May 10, 2011)
On The Kind of President Shed Be
When I am president, my presidency is about your future. It is about what you will have to make your lives, to make your choices however you choose, to be responsible for yourselves, those whom you love, your communities, our country and the world.
(Speech, Wellesley College, November 1, 2007)
