Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Dog-eared and haunting, this book sits on my shelf falling apart. I pull it out every few years and reread it. It is a deeply moving, literary feast of a book. Not only are the characters ones that will lodge in your brain and sneak into your subconscious and conscious but the landscape will fill your minds-eye as you gaze out on a quiet moment. Lucky enough to live in the land that hosts this story it feels even more personal. To walk in the valleys where the characters roamed is a blessing. To wrap this story around you again and again is like falling into a soft blanket and sleeping a sound sleep as you mull over the mysteries of the world. N. Scott Momaday is a national treasure. Read this book and you will agree.
