Acclaimed singer-songwriter Todd Sniders hilarious stories gathered in print for the first time"[Snider] combines the sly phrasing of a stoner, the perfect timing of a stand-up comedian, and a mastery of the tiny detail."—The New Yorker
"Todd Snider's compressed story songs are so vivid and knowing that they seem completely plausible
. But the most compelling character may be Snider: a lowlife Randy Newman."—Rolling Stone
"Okay, so he looks a bit like Beck, twangs and rambles like John Prine or Bob Dylan, crafts a song like Arlo Guthrie, and tells a deadpan joke in the vein of Zach Galifianakis, but Tennessee songwriter's songwriter Todd Snider is a rare performer who can at once channel tradition and still step poignantly—and hilariously—out of its shadow
. He's a king-hell musical storyteller, possibly the greatest of his generation.”—Paste Magazine
For years, Todd Snider has been one of the most beloved country-folk singers in the United States, and he's been compared to Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, John Prine, and dozens of other household names. Snider has become not only a new-century Dylan but a modern-day Will Rogers, an everyman whose intelligence, self-deprecation, experience, and sense of humor make him a uniquely American character. In live performance, Snider's monologues are cheered like his songs. But never before has he told the whole story. Running the gambit from personal memoir to shaggy-dog comedy to rueful memories of his troubles and triumphs with drugs and alcohol to sharp-eyed observations from years on the road, I Never Met A Story I Didn't Like is for fans of Snider's music, but also for fans of America itself: the broad, wild country that has produced figures of folk wisdom like Will Rogers, Mark Twain, Ambrose Bierce, Tonya Harding, Garrison Keillor, and more. There are storytellers and there are performers and there are stand-up comedians. And then there's Todd Snider, who is all three in one, and something else entirely.

Orlando Sentinel, 2/20/2014In I Never Met a Story I Didn't Like, Snider compiles mostly true tall tales that will appeal to fans of his loopy, yet common-sense-laden onstage banter. The book reads like a loose-limbed memoir with recollections of an inauspicious high school football career mixed with music business encounters with Jimmy Buffett, Garth Brooks and others. Often genuinely hilarious.”

[gives] devout fans more insight into the man and his music
[a] memoir thats a lot like being at a very long Snider show, without the melodies.”

"[A] riotous memoir...Todd Snider calls himself a folk singer, but hes what your dad would refer to as a card...Basically this undeservedly unpopular singer has led a life like Keith Richards without the fame and money to hold him down."

If I cant sit on this guys porch for a few hours and chat over some brews, this is the next best thing.”

A sort of freewheeling musicians Künstlerroman
Snider writes candidly, matter-of-factly
Hes affably aware of who he is and who he owes, and a gratitude for his life is evident on every page. Well-known in his field, comfortable in the company of the greats, but just shy of the point where fame sours into a daily burden, Snider knows hes hit the sweet spot...Todd Sniders fans will adore I Never Met a Story I Didnt Like, and the book is sure to add to their ranks. Newcomers, welcome to Sniders world. You may forget you had to be anywhere else. Snider has a story or three, and youre almost guaranteed to get broke out in belly laughs over one of them. Start a tab and sit the hell down.”

I Never Met a Story I Didnt Like is pure Snider, self-deprecating, often rambling and funny as hell.”

Todd Sniders new book is required reading for anyone whos a fan of his left-of-center, observational style of songwriting
.Part autobiography, part modern folklore and all purely entertaining.”

The shaggy stoner inheritor of Arlo Guthrie and Jeff Walker infuses this quasi-memoir with the relatable cadence of a pint-soden pub ramble.”

I Never Met a Story
blazes like a cross-joint dipped in Sterno. Snider is like that friend you always hope shows up to the partya virtuoso storyteller with endless material that's just crazy enough to be true
[his] series of episodes that had me laughing, cringing, squinting in disbelief and shedding a few tears. But mostly laughing. This book could be an exercise program for your face. This is no genteel memoir
. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for those who enjoy unvarnished views of the music business from the inside, humor that's rowdy and wry, and a writer who treats the English language like origami made from a tab of acid.”
Relix, July 2014
The stoner-alt-folk-country-hippie version of Bob Dylans Chronicles.”

Mark Twain hooked on morphine couldnt have written a more curious book.”
Acoustic Guitar, February 2015
Snider moves way past the typical road saga to create a work that is part memoir, part stand-up comedy. Sort of a poor mans Garrison Keillor.”
Synopsis
I Never Met a Story I Didn't Like, which collects Todd Sniders stories in print for the first time, takes readers on a tour through one of the most inventive and idiosyncratic minds at work today.
Synopsis
For years, Todd Snider has been one of the most beloved country-folk singers in the United States. He had a Top 40 hit with Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” which gave national audiences the first taste of his insightful songwriting, at once satirical and sincere. Hailed by critics as one of the top albums of 2004,
East Nashville Skyline was followed by
The Devil You Know and
The Excitement Plan. Sniders songs took on George W. Bush and Americas recent involvement in foreign war, along with a host of more intimate topics.
As good as Sniders albums have been, his in-concert monologues are even better. His shows are a loose-limbed, informal experience: its often just him and a guitar. He introduces songs with stories that can run as long as twenty minutes, always displaying his charm and wit. As hes allowed his storytelling to evolve along with his music, Snider has become not only a modern day Bob Dylan but a modern day Will Rogers as wellan everyman whose intelligence, self deprecation, experience, and, above all, humor make him a uniquely American character.
