Synopsis
Lawrence was born in Sunderland and educated at St Aidan's Catholic Grammar School, and at the age of 16 enrolled at the town's College of Art, graduating in Fine Art in 1962, and History of Art in 1985. He has taught Art and Art History in both the public and private sectors.
Through his first-hand research Lawrence has produced this thought provoking and evocative account of British art of the Great War, by both male and female artists and poets, many of whom have been written out of the cultural history of our country, making this book the perfect memento of the centenary of the Great War. Included is art by such great British artists as Paul Nash, Lucy Kemp-Welsh, Christopher Nevinson, Anna Airy and Eric Kennington.
