Stephanie Johnson, adept in alternative and complementary medicine, has worked as a birth doula. She speaks, both tender and surreal, in a choir of women's voices to women, healers, bodyworkers, aficionados of mythology, and to anyone seeking spiritual solace in the natural world or interested in understanding and healing the body/mind split.

Johnson was born in Minneapolis, MN; she has lived in Alaska, and now lives in New Mexico. During the time she wrote these poems, Johnson was also studying alternative and complementary medicine and working as a birth doula.
