Si l'histoire de ce temps et surtout de cette annee au milieu de laquelle nous commencons notre recit, n'etait liee d'une lagon indissoluble aux deux noms que nous ve nons de citer, les quelques lignes d'explication que nous allons donner pourraient parattre un hors-d'oeuvre; mais nous prevenons tout d'abord le lecteur, ce vieil ami, a qui nous promettons toujours du plaisir a notre premiere page, et auquel nous tenons parole tant bien que mal dans les pages suivantes; mais nous prevenons, disons nous, notre lecteur que cette explication est aussi indis pensable a la clarte de notre histoire qu'a l'intelligence du grand evenement politique dans lequel cette histoire s'en cadre.
